The digital haircut your clips didn’t know they needed.

## What it is

Trimming involves shortening the beginning or end of a clip without splitting it fully. It adjusts in/out points while keeping the clip as a single unit in the timeline.

## Why it's important

Trimming ensures smooth pacing and precise alignment. It is used to tighten timing, remove dead space or mistakes, and keep sequences polished without cluttering the timeline.

## When/how to use

Use [trim](https://help.clueso.io/clips/trimming) tools to quickly cut down clips, especially during rough cuts or fine edits. Most NLEs offer ripple or non-ripple trims, depending on whether you want to shift the timeline after cutting.
