The beat your edit dances to, even if there’s no music.

## What it is

Rhythm in video is the underlying pattern or flow created by edits, visuals, and sound. It’s how fast and slow moments alternate to create a sense of movement and balance.

## Why it's important

Rhythm keeps stories engaging by preventing monotony. It creates cohesion and emotional tone. It’s what makes a scene feel smooth, snappy, tense, or meditative; even without a soundtrack. While pacing is about tempo, rhythm is about _texture_.

## When/how to use

Use rhythm to guide attention and shape viewer experience. Align cuts with music, movement, or dialogue. Break the rhythm (intentionally) to surprise or emphasize a moment.
