# Edit

The act of deleting 90% of what you lovingly shot so your video actually makes sense

## What it is

Editing is the post-production process of selecting, arranging, and modifying video and audio clips to form a coherent and compelling final product.

## Why it's important

Editing shapes the story, sets the pace, and determines the overall tone. The same footage can become a comedy, tragedy, or thriller depending on the edit. It’s where storytelling decisions truly take form.

## When/how to use

Editing happens after filming and continues through revisions, color correction, sound design, and export. It’s both a technical and creative process requiring careful decision-making and storytelling finesse.

## Best Practices

1. **Highlight significance –** Reserve ECUs for details that carry strong narrative or emotional weight.
2. **Maintain focus precision –** Ensure the subject detail is razor sharp since the frame excludes all else.
3. **Use sparingly –** Limit ECUs to avoid visual fatigue; they’re most powerful when rare.
